Vice President of Tandus Canada, Carl Hulme
completed a certificate in Floorcoverings and
Textiles at Bradford Technical College from 1973.
After school Carl served an apprenticeship
at Watson’s Carpets in Greater Manchester.
They had been in business over 80 years and
were the largest floorcovering retailer in the
north of England. His apprenticeship entailed
him attending classes in floorcoverings and
textiles at Bradford Technical College.
Carl emigrated to Canada in 1979 where he joined Eaton’s of Canada as a regional manager. He also attended the Eaton School of Business, receiving a Diploma in Executive Management.
“I really do believe that by coming to the college and studying and putting in the effort it really boosted my self esteem and allowed me to explore opportunities and challenges beyond my comfort zone. One of those opportunities was to join Eaton’s in their buying offices and from there I progressed, eventually assuming responsibly for all of their Alberta North Stores.
In 1984 I joined Crossley Carpets Canada where I became National Accounts Manager, managing and implementing marketing programs into several large Department Stores in Canada & the US and being responsible for over 40% of Crossley’s Canadian business. In 1990 I assumed the role as Vice President of Sales & Marketing. In 1999 we were acquired by C&A Floorcoverings out of Dalton Georgia, and today I am Vice President of Sales for Canada for 3 brands, Monterey Carpets, C&A Floorcoverings and Crossley Carpet Mills, operating and doing business under the umbrella of Tandus.”
Carl is a member of ARIDO, IFMA & Corenet Canada. He also is acting Vice President of the Canadian Carpet Institute.
“Attending Bradford College was a stepping stone. I clearly gained knowledge that allowed more self esteem and also allowed me to translate that into a wonderful career that has spanned over 30 years and 2 countries. Had I not attended the College and participated in the program, who knows what may have happened.”
